Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Wiki Bio, is an Indian Weightlifter and Gold Medallist.

She has been representing India in International events since 2014 and she has won multiple World Championships. She represents in 48 Kg category and won multiple awards in Commonwealth Games.

Mirabai Chanu, Personal Life, Wiki Bio

Mirabai is a resident of Manipur, India. She is coached by well-known coach Kunjarani Devi. Mirabai Chanu has won India’s first gold since 1995 at the Weightlifting World Championships.

She has a very humble background and is an employee of Indian Railways. She banked her first gold medal at a young age of 11.

Mirabhai Chanu, Career & Weightlifting Championships

On April 5, 2018, 23-year-old, won a Gold Medal at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018. She made a new Personal and Game Record by breaking six records in six lifts to secure the top prize in the Women’s 48 kg weightlifting.

Chanu’s first major breakthrough came when she won Silver Medal at Glasgow edition of the Commonwealth Games (2014) in 48 kg category.

In 2016 Rio Olympics, she failed to finish the event as she failed to lift the weight in any of three attempts in clean and Jerk section.

In 2017, she won Gold Medal at 2017 World Weightlifting Championships held at Anaheim, CA, United States.

Mirabai Chanu has worked hard to earn the position and respect. In 2018, she was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India. She was also presented with a cash prize of ₹2 million.
